One cannot prevent sickle cell anemia during natural conception. However, if parents go for IVF then it can be prevented to a certain extent.

Stem cell or bone marrow transplants are the only cure for sickle cell disease, but they are not done very often because of the significant risks involved.
One is recommended to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and pair them with whole grains, and protein foods (such as eggs, fish, chicken, meats, beans or tofu and nuts or seeds). Additionally focus on calcium-rich foods and beverages such as milk, yogurt, and cheese
Sickle cell anemia cannot be passed on from one person to the other. It is not contagious. It can be only passed on from parents to children by birth.
Sickle cell carrier are people those who inherit sickle cell gene and one normal gene. They usually pass on their sickle cell gene to their baby. This passing on makes them a sickle cell carrier.
Research hints that blood group O was the commonest blood group to pass on sickle cell anemia. However, if any of the parent was a carrier then any blood group could produce sickle cell anemia.
