Hemoglobin and hematocrit are both red blood cell measurements that are used to help diagnose nutritional deficiencies, chronic illnesses and medical conditions such as anemia.
A hematocrit test is part of a complete blood count (CBC). It measures the proportion of red blood cells in your blood can help your doctor make a diagnosis or monitor your response to a treatment. A lower than normal hematocrit can indicate that there are insufficient red blood cells which can further lead to anemia.
In adults, normal levels for men range from 41%-50%. For women, the normal range is slightly lower 36%-44%. Below normal range usually indicates anemia.
