A platelet count of less than 150,000 platelets per microliter is lower than normal. This can be due to health conditions or medical reasons, you are advised to check with a physician as to why your platelet count is below normal.
Most often, a high platelet count is not serious and may not cause any major symptoms. However, having a high platelet count can lead to blood clotting which can block blood flow through your body.
Platelets also known as thrombocytes, are tiny components of your blood that help with clotting. Platelets are your body natural bandage to stop bleeding. They are important because if a blood vessel is damaged, the body sends signals to platelets which cause them to travel to the injured area.
There is no sure shot way to lower platelet count by eating specific foods. However, your doctor might prescribe platelet-lowering drugs such as hydroxyurea (Droxia, Hydrea), anagrelide (Agrylin)
