How is the blood sample taken?
To take the blood sample, a tourniquet (elastic) band is placed tightly on the upper arm. The patient is asked to make a fist. This helps in the buildup of blood filling the veins and it becomes easy to collect the blood. The skin is cleaned before inserting the needle in the vein in order to prevent bacteria from entering. The needle is then inserted into the vein in the arm and the blood sample is collected in the vacutainer.

The symptoms of Lithium Toxicity depend upon its intensity. For example, the symptoms of mild to moderate lithium toxicity include diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, fatigue, tremors, uncontrollable movements, muscle weakness, drowsiness, and weakness. The symptoms of severe lithium toxicity include heightened reflexes, seizures, agitation, slurred speech, kidney failure, rapid heartbeat, hyperthermia, uncontrollable eye movements, low blood pressure, confusion, coma, delirium and may lead to death.
What are the side effects of low doses of lithium?
The side effects of low doses of lithium include frequent urination, thirst, hand tremors, dry mouth, weight loss or gain, indigestion or gas, restlessness, constipation, rash, and muscle weakness.

There are mainly three types of lithium toxicity based upon causes. These include acute toxicity, chronic toxicity, and acute-on-chronic toxicity.
